I would have loved to have bumpers for today's WoD. It was a mainsite rest day, but I won't be able to workout this weekend, so I am going for a 5 on 2 off schedule. I went to work on overhead squats. I used the closed cage with the guards set high, but I was still a little nervous about having to bail. This was my first time to go heavy with overhead, so I knew I would have to bail at some time. Talk about lots of looks. Bailing gracefully with no bumpers, from overhead, is NOT pretty.
3-3-3-3-3
95, 115, 135, 135, 145, 145 (fail), 135 (fail)
I wasn't setting out for 5 sets, but thats where I ended up. It was definately my upper body that gave out first, and I saw my squat go to pot with the upper body's instability. Still, it was a good chance to increase my capacity and work toward a body weight lift (my overhead squat goal). I also saw on the Snatch videos that the overhead squat is a must for good snatch form. The deep overhead catch position is hard to master if you don't have a good OHS (according to Burgner).
Yesterday was a 5K. I did id in 22:17. The watch gave me some conflicting numbers, but I was able to figure it out at the right time and distance. Not a PR, but a very windy day. I set out to keep a sub 7 pace with a less aggressive start. I kept it at about 6:50 until I hit the uphill, into the wind on the last mile. I averaged 7:10 and had nothing left for a sprint at the end. I was a bit disappointed, but still a pretty good time for the windy night.
I will not be able to make the barbell cert (saving money for a vacation in may) but I will try to work on going to the qualifiers next weekend if possible.
