Today was a 7x1 of Clean and Jerk. I have made lots of progress on my Jerk, but still lack the strength or comfort to get a ton of weight overhead. I decided to go with the split jerk today, since that favors the fast but inflexible (I'm at least one of those two).
185,195,205,215,215,225(fail),225(fail)
I hit all of the cleans, bht the jerk is what failed me. After the fact, I now realize that my split should have been lower. Since 225 isn't going up very high, I need to get down under it faster and further. I got the weight moving, but wasn't near lockout when it started coming back down. It was good to get some practice on a heavy clean (while not my PR it was still HEAVY) and I realize now that I need to practice holding heavy weight overhead more. I need to work on my snatch and OHS as well as Jerk.
I'm considering today's lift a PR. I have gotten a 215 jerk before, but it was at home, before I realized that my bar is 7 pounds light. That made it a 208 jerk. And I got 215 two times today. My push press is the same as my jerk, so I clearly just need to get more comfortable with the speed and landing low and rigid.
I then did a 1 set max of mups with another guy at the gym. He has struggled lately with the mup, and he got 3. I was able to get 6. As always, it came to a loss of false grip. I know I have the strength to get 7 or 8, I just need to get better at holding a false grip. I was able to reset in the top of the dip to keep it going longer, but when the chalk was gone, so was my grip.
