On Saturday, I worked on my OHS. I haven't done it in a very long time, but I was optimistic about my potential. I worked on a 3 rep max with a previous PR of 162 (my bar is 8 pounds lighter than I thought it was when I thought I hit 175).
I got 202 lbs! I was so pumped up. I went for 207, but wasn't in it mentally. I was thrilled to get what I did and look forward to more progress on that one.
Today was split Jerk 7x1. I worked up to a new PR of 225 after failing at it 2x first. I was, again, thrilled to get that much overhead, as it is a first for me with any lift. I need to work on getting lower, faster, and landing more rigid, but I am pleased with the overhead improvements.
It is interesting to note how different weights can feel light or heavy when I pick them up off the rack. For instance, 190 OHS felt real heavy when I picked it up and I fought to keep control, but 202 felt the same or lighter and took less struggle to manage it. That tells me that a successful lift is about more than just strength. It is also about mental and neurological preparedness. If my mind or my system are not ready, a light weight can feel much harder than it should. The trick is just getting that preparedness every time I pick up a bar.
