Today was a rest day for me and I had the opportunity to use a gift card that I had received from Christmas. I purchased a 20lb weighted vest. Now you are probably thinking 20lbs can't be THAT heavy. I will tell you what, it is darn heavy to do anything for a long duration, at least for me right now.
I have seen some dramatic changes with my fitness since starting crossfit and feel that I am able to improve on the WODs that I have previously completed. My main concern is my lack of strength. I have never been the strongest person, more quick and coordinated. I am not looking to bulk up like a body builder but I would like to be able to throw around more weight than I currently can. This will allow me to do the WODs as Rx. I have challenged myself starting tomorrow that I would do 100 pushups with the 20lbs in the vest every other day for a month, followed by squats for a month and then pullups for a month. All in conjunction with continuing to complete the WODs. Call me crazy but I am addicted to Crossfit and would like to be able to post some great numbers in the future. Alot of the articles talk about Mechanics, Consistency and Intensity; I am consistent by completing the WODs 5 days a week and I am always working on the mechanics of the lifts whether in the gym or at home (ask my wife) and I do bring the intensity, however, I need to kick up the intensity of the strength all little more in order to achieve my goals. Do not worry I am sure you will hear all about my personal challenge in the future.
