I have been on the zone diet for nearly a week now, and I am a little unsure of the results yet. As an example, today's WoD was
10 rounds for time of
3 weighted pullups (45 pounds)
5 dead hang pull ups
7 kipping pullups.
This WoD was a disaster. First, my plan for 2 consecutive sets was thwarted when the weight fell after the 3rd rep and bounced far away. Then, I couldn't seem to get back into rhythym. I completed 2 rounds with the 45 pound weight, then downgraded to 35 pounds for 1-2 rounds(mediocrity is hard to remember). One more set at 20 pounds led me to realize that I am not ready for a large number of weighted pullups. It was at this time that I stopped the clock out of complete frustration. I now triaged my goal to completion of the WoD, not time. I continued with 8 dead hang pullups and 7 kipping pullups through 7 total rounds. At the end of the 7th round I realized that the pain in my hand was actually a blister/callous that had exploded. My pain level at this point was almost as high as my frustration level and I wussed out of the WoD and cut my losses.
This is the second WoD this week that left me feeling disappointed. Is it coincidental that this happened during the Zone week #1, or is it not living up to the hype? i also had a very late hockey game and added a 20 minute stationary bike ride into the warm up for the sake of a friend. OR Did I just let my ego get too big for this WoD. Who knows, but i intend to continue to push hard to find out. i will also give the zone a couple of more weeks. Oh yeah, I also lost 3 more pounds, Zone or just the rhythm of the workout? Who knows?
