All work and no play...

Makes Josh a tired boy.
I went to bed with plans for the bench press and rowing wod. I even planned to ask to move the rowers to avoid the evil SDHP sub. When the alarm went off at 5:00am, I realized that my body was in need of a rest day. With Hockey back on Sundays again (off season is over), I have to adjust my scheduling. I can't keep up with a Wod every weekday and hockey on Sundays. That is 6 on and only 1 off. I hate missing WoDs and I have so many areas I want to work on that it is hard for me to miss a whole day. Even now, I wonder if I should do the 400m and squat WoD at home. I have learned, however, that rest is a much needed thing. Hitting a WoD with a half effort is worse than taking the rest day and hitting the next WoD harder. I still want to do the bench press WoD because I haven't done a bench press since August of 2008, but it wasn't in the cards for today. I also have a hockey game Thursday night that I have to figure in. Too many fun fitness things to do and too little time and energy.

There have been a couple of mentions to long term periodization on the main site lately, and I wonder if 9 straight months of hitting wods hard will take its toll on me. Then again, I am still seeing progress and I don't want to go backwards. I'm not real sure how I will schedule around Hockey, Wod with my friend on Tuesdays, Strength bias protocols, and sticking with the main site Wods that have produced so much progress for me.

In any case, I thought it would be good to blog on a rest day, since so many of our blogs relate only to max effort and productivity, when rest is just as important.
