My last murph was without a vest and it took me 36:40. It was done a day after 400m of burpee broad jumps, but still a reasonable effort.
Today, I went in with plans to do a chipper with work on HSPU, pistols, situps, pullups and burpees. Then I caught that 2 other guys were doing murph. So I jumped in, since I needed to try it with a vest.
Murph
Run 1 mile (7:05)
100 pullups
200 pushups
300 squats (22:26)
Run 1 mile (8:44)
Total: 38:16
On the first run, I took a little off to not overtire myself. Then 5 rounds of 10,20,30 rep scheme. I started slowing a bit and shifted to 5,10,15 and kept moving pretty well. At my 4th from last round, I did 15 extra squats so I could do the last round without any squats. That meant a little more legs on the run. I was really happy to get the last run sub 9 min, with my legs feeling tired but not too wasted. The vest was hard, but only slowed me down related to respiratory stamina. It got heavy on my chest and it got hard to get a full breath. I kept up strength pretty well, but the weight on my chest was tough. I am pretty excited that this was only 1:36 over my PR without the vest. I think the next time I go without the vest I am going for sub 30 minutes.
