In training for the mini triathalon, I did a 12 mile bike ride with my 38 pound son in a 'not so light' trailor. I completed the ride in 49:20, about 7 minutes off my best standard time. It was a great quad workout. It was also a good mental exercise in sports psychology.
One of the good benefits (redundant?) of CrossFit is learning the power of will power. I am learning that I can push myself hard, and when it feels like I should give up or take a break, I can push harder. Lots of times on the ride, I passed good opportunities to turn back early at even intervals. Instead, I kept going and was able to stick with the expectation I set for myself initially. This will, hopefully, generalize to other areas and improve my drive and will power to push through difficulty with improved long term gratification.
All that from a 49 minute bike ride, go figure.
